The life and times of the Godfrey ten.

2008/09 Christmas Letter

Well obviously it isn’t 2009 yet, but very soon, hence the title of this page. Actually, it was a mistake but I didn’t want to reprint 100+ labels so this is our official 2009 Christmas Letter. So how was 2008 for the Godfrey family? It was another good year. We started our family blog, so that’s a plus. We are all healthy, another plus, and I am still working, depending on who you talk to, that’s a good thing. The Lord has been gracious to us yet again and we are thankful.

We think this was Disney, but it could've been elsewhere.

This was probably on our first day at Disney.

Dorian and Alli have turned 15 this year and they are still trying to get their driving permits. They don’t seem to be in a hurry, which worries me because I don’t want to be their unpaid chauffeur for much longer. Both of them are taking classes at Soldotna High and seem to be enjoying it. Alli is still on the dance team which means dance about 4 nights a week, which means daddy gets to drive a lot, yay! Dorian is playing basketball on the high school team which means, wait for it… lots of driving for me and mommy, Yay!

Dorian found this shell near New Smyrna Beach on the Coast.

Alli, Jake, Jo and Dorian running for their lives from the warm ocean.

Olivia and Jeremy are busy as usual. Olivia is back in dance and Jeremy played comp soccer and basketball this past year. He actually won an award for soccer, and I am not talking about one of the ones they give to everybody. It was an mvp award for his team for one of their tournaments. Olivia is growing up far to quickly and becoming a beautiful woman with a mind like a steel trap. She is very smart and very quiet and is becoming a great babysitter, unpaid although it may be, her reward is self satisfaction.

Livy, Kassie and Jake doing some school shopping in Fl.

Jeremy was picked from hundreds to fight Darth Vader, Vader wasn't ready for the flash named Jerms.

Ben and Kassie are still going strong. Ben played comp soccer and was the youngest on his team. He did great and even scored a few goals. Kassie is back in dance and doing great. She is growing like a weed, her legs go up to my shoulder. They are both doing good in school, according to their mom, their teacher.

How about this one for church mom?

All the kids on a tree somwhere in Fl.

Finally the clean up crew, Jake and Jo. They are 3 and 5 and running around like they are 3 and 5. Jake played his first year of soccer with dad as the coach. My biggest challenge was to keep him and his best friend Isiah from play fighting in the middle of the game. We had a great time and I think we won most of our games; according to the kids we won every game and who can argue with 5 year olds. I do know one thing, we know how to eat snack after the game, and I didn’t even have to coach that. Jo loves dancing and dressing up around the house. Multiple times a day she reminds us that she is 3, and that she is nice, oh and she is big. She is the belle of the ball. Unfortunately she has not been adopted by us, so we need your prayers on that as we want that finalized as soon as possible.

Dad and Jake watching the awesome Disney fireworks.

Mom and Jo on our first day at the Hard Rock Roller Coaster. It was fast!

Tracy is the glue keeping us all together. She schedules everything and then dispatches me where I need to go. I’m a good driver…. I only forgot kids like 3 times. Not bad when you consider how many trips I had to make this year. In one day Tracy put  180 miles on her car just driving the kids around to Dr. appointments, school, music lessons, practice etc. That is a lot of driving for not going anywhere. She is staying very involved in church and has stepped up to actually lead worship while our worship leader was out having a baby. She continues to help out in all her spare time.

Self explanatory and true. Universal Studios.

Glenn, well he is still working and when he is not working he is driving, and when he is not driving, he is thinking about when he has to drive again and blogging.

The big event of the year, our first family vacation to Orlando Fl. This past February we took our first family vacation out of Alaska with 10 people. To get there, we had to take two different planes. No not because we filled the planes up, but because we were using mileage and companion tickets. We had a great time and met up with Tracy’s mom and with the Springers from right here in Soldotna. We rented a great house in a gated neighborhood and we had our own pool and game room, as if there wasn’t enough to do in Orlando.

Really enjoyed the Donkey. He talked to us a lot and made fun of us because we were from AK.

We went to the local parks 11 times over the 18 day period, and I think our favorites were the Universal Studios parks. We hit all 3 Disney parks, 3 universal parks, 1 water park, Sea World and Busch Gardens. A couple of them multiple times. Yet with all that I think the kids favorite thing was the pool at our house and the pool in our neighborhood. So next time we won’t even have to go anywhere, jut get a house with a pool and we will be good to go!

Jo loved every creature and hugged em all, Jake... a slightly different story.

Please mom, just one M&M.

Well I know this wasn’t too Christmasy, but hey we are in the middle of winter here and we need some warm thoughts. We pray that you all are blessed this up coming year and that the new year brings you great prosperity throughout your life. Merry Christmas, God Bless, and subscribe or check into the blog as it is updated 3-4 times a week.

Very cute Glenn! Great job. It will be fun to check back. You have a great sense of humor. ( Did Tracy really drive 128 miles in one day just driving the kids around??? ) Merry Christmas!

  2. Thanks Terri. Tracy actually drove about 180 miles in that day, it was a little crazy. I am glad we got her that car instead driving the van that gets 1.2 miles per gallon, downhill. Glad you checked in to the blog.

Hi Godfrey’s! I received your Christmas card just a day or two after Christmas. It’s New Years Day and I’m determined to remain in my pajamas as long as possible:) By the way, I’m Tracy’s stepsister from Buffalo, NY. Just wanted to let you know that I enjoyed reading your Christmas letter. Maybe sometime our paths will cross and we will get to meet. Best wishes for 2009! Take care and God bless.

    • Thanks very much for the comment! We love staying in our jammies, it is a good time for all. I try to update the blog about 3 times a week. Have a fantastic New Year, and I bet we are a little colder than Buffalo today, -25, great indoor jammie weather.

  5. I can’t believe I just now got around to reading your Christmas letter!… I’d forgotten that it was part of your website this year. It’s great! … I especially liked the part about “the worship leader was out having a baby”… just like that?… you make it sound so much easier than it was! Ha 🙂 I may just have to go out and have myself another baby here real soon! PS ~ still asking God for a miracle.
